A Community Contribution Provision is a legally enforceable clause in the Articles of
Incorporation of a Community Contribution Company (C3) that defines the company’s community purpose and legally binds it to operate in alignment with
that purpose. It forms part of the company’s governing documents and shapes the duties of its
directors.
The Company commits to the following community purposes:
The Company exists to advance human flourishing, dignity, and collective capacity in the
design, development, governance, and use of digital technologies. Its community purposes
include supporting individuals and communities to understand, shape, and benefit from the
digital systems that affect their lives.
In furtherance of these purposes, the Company will:
- Develop its products, services, and infrastructure in collaboration with community
members, subject-matter experts, practitioners, and organizations with lived or
professional expertise relevant to the industries, technologies, and populations
affected by the Company's work.
- Treat knowledge as a shared social good and allocate resources to knowledge-sharing that
support individuals and communities in building technical capacity and making informed
decisions about the digital systems they engage with.
- Collaborate with and compensate contributors, both locally and internationally, in ways
that reflect dignity, expertise, and equitable distribution of compensation, including
through fees, stipends, per diem, honoraria, salaries, or other forms of remuneration
authorized by the directors and determined in good faith to advance the Company's
community purposes.
- Recognize Vancouver as its initial home and allocate resources to support local
nonprofit organizations, educational initiatives, cultural workers, and community-based
projects that advance social inclusion, economic resilience, and public benefit in the
region.
